Vue Lite 2: A Smart Audio Glasses for Smart Users

I remember when Vue first introduced its first smart glasses back in 2016 through a pretty successful Kickstarter campaign. The first product was officially launched in 2018 and I read quite a lot of user reviews about it back then.

However, I didn’t have the chance to review it myself so I can’t say much about it.

I recently found out that Vue has launched a new version of its glasses in 2020 from my little brother. He asked me to review his new Vue Lite 2 Smart Audio Glasses, which he just bought based on his friend’s suggestion. After using it a couple of times, he then asked me to have an honest review of the product.

As for him, he said that he was pretty happy about it.

Now I have the new Vue Lite 2 Smart Audio Glasses in my hand already, and it’s now my turn to review them, and I am excited to share my thoughts about the product with you.

Based on what I found out on the web, the Vue Lite 2 is the next generation of the first Vue Lite Audio Glasses that was launched earlier, back in 2020, with some upgrades including improved audio technology and more style and design options to choose from.

What’s In The Box?

At a glance, the glasses look like regular or normal glasses. If I didn’t know that they were smart glasses, I would probably think that they were just regular glasses.

The design is simple, sleek and I think they are perfect for any look and occasion.

When I first saw the packaging box, I had to say that I loved it. The design looked pretty stylish as it says “Your better everyday starts today!” which I think comes as a nice form of brand promise.

The box consists of a pair of Vue Lite 2 Smart Audio glasses, an olive green carrying pouch, a proprietary magnetic charging cable, a microfiber lens cloth, a quick start guide, and a standard warranty booklet.

As for the pouch, it comes in the form of a standard glasses pouch. However, the color of the pouch attracts my attention because it’s green, and since green is one of my favorite colors, I love it.

My brother had the one with a black frame, which is called the Cygnus. But as I checked online, the Vue Lite 2 comes in several colors and designs including the Taurus, the Columba, the Orion, and the most recent one, the Leo.

With so many designs available, you can choose based on your preference and style.

Even better, you can also customize the lenses and prescription types as required with additional cost. If you are not a prescription glasses user, you might want to go for the sunglasses version of the product.

My First Impression

My brother opted for the Vue Lite 2 with black frames, which I would surely pick if I were him. Personally, I think glasses with black frames are the basic model of glasses that can perfectly match any style and occasion.

Although this one has a nerdy kind of look, I still think that glasses with black frames are truly a safe choice for me.

My First Impression with VUE Lite 2 Smart

Again, it doesn’t look like smart glasses at all! It rather looks like a regular pair of glasses for daily use. The smart elements are located inside the side legs including the speakers, microphones, and charging port.

To be honest, the side legs are pretty slim so you would not have guessed that they can fit several advanced eyewear’ features inside. The legs also include the Vue logo on each side of the legs and it was meant to become a mark for you to access the touch panels easily.

How To Use Vue Lite 2 Smart Audio Glasses?

To start using the Vue Lite 2, the first thing you need to do is make sure they are charged.

In order to do that, you need to check the status light for the battery, which is placed on the leg part of the frame. Lights will turn “ON”, when your glasses are running out of battery, which is a sign for you to immediately charge them. Lights will turn “OFF”, once charging is complete and you can unplug the charging cable from the glasses.

However, do bear in mind that you will need an additional AC adapter to plug the core into the outlet.

Track Your Activity
Track Your Activity

The next thing to remember is that you can control your smart and intelligent eyeglasses by tapping the Vue logo on the side of the frame legs. To play and pause music, plus to manage calls, make double taps on the panels.

To go to the next track, make triple-taps, and you can contact the assistants like Siri, Alexa or Google assistant with a long hold on the panel.

I found the sensor panels to be very sensitive, in a good way though. You just need to tap the panels firmly and gently. To ensure your taps are successful, you will hear a beep everytime you touch them.

The last thing to remember before you can start using these glasses is to connect them with your smartphone. I connected the Vue Lite 2 to my iPhone via Bluetooth and the process was smooth and easy, just like connecting any device via Bluetooth before.

You will know instantly when it’s successfully paired since you will hear the frames say “paired.” After your glasses are connected to your phone, you’re good to go.

Comfort While Wearing

Aside from the design that looks like a regular pair of glasses, I have to admit that this product also offers comfort. Weighing only 25 grams, wearing these glasses feels like wearing your everyday glasses. Because I think it is very light, it is also very pleasant to wear.

Comfort While Wearing

To know whether it’s comfortable to wear for an extended period, I was doing a simple test by wearing them for one full day.

Well, I had to take them off when I was doing certain things like washing my face and such. But I was wearing them basically for other things like cleaning the room, working in front of a computer, even cycling and running. And to my surprise, I had no issues!

So, in terms of comfort, I confidently give a score of 8 out of 10.

Vue Lite 2: Connectivity

Just like other digital devices, you can connect these glasses to any device easily with Bluetooth. Aside from connecting the Vue Lite 2 to my smartphone, I also tried to connect it to my laptop, and it worked smoothly with no issue whatsoever.

However, I did read that the devices need to be at least 30 ft (10m) from the glasses for maximum performance, otherwise it will lose connection.

Personally, I highly recommend these glasses for work. With Vue Lite 2, you can take phone calls, Zoom calls or any other online meetings easily using taps without having to use additional earphones or headphones.

Therefore, your ears will remain free and you can still pay attention to your surroundings.

In addition, you can also contact Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant to support your daily activities. These advanced glasses are also working based on voice control, so you can easily use the features of your smartphone using the voice control feature offered by this pair of cool glasses.

Vue Lite 2: Audio Performance and Features

The Vue Lite 2 is named Smart Audio Glasses, so I supposed audio is something that this product is highlighting. Unlike the first generation of Vue glasses, the Vue Lite 2 is no longer using Bone Conduction audio technology to transfer stereo sound.

Instead, the Vue Lite 2 is using built-in speakers placed on each side of the frame leg.

I tested the speakers by listening to music and Podcasts, and it was pretty good. Then I was expecting the sound to be a bit unclear but surprisingly, the sound was pretty sharp and clear.

Vue Lite 2: Audio Performance and Features

I even tried to hear some music while having an afternoon run and I found that the sound was still quite ok despite the outdoor surroundings, and the same goes to phone calls, too. However, I would still suggest the audio features to be used indoors for maximum performance.

You can still hear the bass but it is always wise to manage your expectations when you use it outdoors. Plus, you can’t control the volume from the frames and you can only do it directly from your phone.

But overall it was pretty good and let’s hope Vue can make improvements on the sound quality in the future.

Noise Canceling Mic

Another thing that needs to be highlighted is the high-fidelity noise canceling mic. To be honest I wasn’t expecting too much from the mic, since I think mics are pretty sensitive and it’s not an easy task to embed a great microphone into a pair of glasses. But as I tried to take phone calls I have to say that the mic picks up our voice clearly.

I have no issues calling Siri using voice commands as well. In short the mic performs well despite the surroundings, thumbs up!

Being smart glasses, it would be fair to compare the Vue Lite 2 to similar products like the Acho Frames or Bose Frames. They all have similar features with slight differences here and there.

For audio, Bose definitely wins since speakers are Bose’s specialty for many years already. But Bose Frames have bulky frame legs compared to Vue.

Meanwhile for Acho Frames, they have more audio features including the volume that can adjust automatically based on ambient noise levels.

Vue Lite 2: Battery Life

The battery life is one of the things I love the most about this device. I can even give a score of 9/10 for the battery life. Plus, the fast charging feature, too! To be fully charged, the Vue Lite 2 only needs 10 minutes of charging time, and that’s it.

Once it’s fully charged you can use the glasses to play 4 hours of music playback with 20 hours in standby mode.

In my opinion, this feature would be beneficial for those who wear prescription glasses’ lenses, because sometimes they just can’t perform well without their glasses. But with Vue Lite 2, they will only need to spare 10 minutes of their time for charging the glasses, and they’re up to go again with a fully charged device.

Should You Buy or Recommend The Vue Lite 2 Smart Audio Glasses?

This is not an easy question, but I would say it depends on what you need. I would recommend this product if you work long hours in front of a computer with a lot of online meeting schedules.

With these glasses you can enjoy your meetings with your ears free from headphones and earphones.

However, if you love y to have a gadget that keeps your hands free, this might be a good pick, too. Aside from the audio features, the Vue Lite 2 has several other cool features that will work nicely for you.

As long as it’s connected to your phone with Bluetooth, you can use it to take selfies because the touch panel works as a remote camera trigger. Even better, you can keep track of the navigation by listening to directions while you are on the road.

1. Price and Availability

The product is available on Vue’s official website with a price starting from $199. However, you can find a list of styles and designs of the Vue Lite 2 to choose from and you can order customized specifications on the lenses, which will of course come with additional cost depending on the specs.

2. Performance

In terms of design and style, I really love the product’s performance especially since it’s light and very comfortable to wear for long hours. But still, I do think the audio and sound performance still have many rooms for improvements.

Yet I still recommend this product since it’s always delightful for me to have wearable devices that can make our life easier, don’t you think?

3. What I Like The Most? (Pros)

  • Sleek design with many styles to choose from.
  • Light and comfortable.
  • Totally hands-free (especially for indoor use).
  • Provide options for pre-installed prescription lenses.
  • Fast charging.

4. What I Don’t Like? (Cons)

  • Not really good for music and audio (especially for outdoor use).
  • No volume control.

However, it’s a bit tricky when it comes to adding speakers to a pair of glasses. But since the Vue Lite 2 is branding the product as a pair of smart audio glasses, great audio and sound quality must be the main features.

Final Thoughts

Compared to the early generation of Vue glasses, I think Vue did a great job working on the Vue Lite 2. I have to say the design, style, and the options for pre-installed prescription lenses are excellent.

Not to mention the design that looks like a normal pair of glasses, and the fact that it is light enough to make me feel comfortable wearing them all day.

I have no issues on the audio speakers for indoor use, to be honest. But for outdoor use, I really think there are plenty of rooms for improvements. But still, my final score for the Vue Lite 2 is 7/10, so it’s worth having for me.
